How To: Ikat Nails!!!

Ney my beautiful ladies! If you’re looking for a fashion-forward way to add some flair to your nails, but don’t feel confident drawing designs yet, Ikat nail design may be perfect for you! This super cute pattern has entered the nail art world with a colorful bang. Ikat pattern lends itself perfectly to manicures with endless possibilities for color combinations and creativity. Although fall is here in full-force, you can still have fun with prints by mixing and matching your fall color palettes with this fun pattern.

To create the Ikat nail art design, follow some of these easy step-by step tutorials:

As you can see at the step-by-step tutorials above, all you need is a base color, black and white striper polishes, and an accent color. If you don’t have striper polishes, you can use regular polish or acrylic paint with a small detailing brush. You can also switch out the white and black for a light or dark contrasting shade. The possibilities are endless!

Start by painting all of your nails with whichever polish you chose as your base color. After allowing your base colour to dry, take your white striper polish and create one or two irregular triangle shapes on each of your nails. Using your accent colour, place a small amount in the middle of all your white triangles. Follow the general shape of the white triangle, but don’t try to make it too perfect – the irregularity of these shapes is what makes this print look so cool in the end. Then with your black striper polish outline your white triangles. Still using your black striper polish, add a touch of black to the second colour you used above. The black doesn’t need to be any particular size and it doesn’t need to be perfectly centred. Be sure to let your layers dry for 5-10 minutes so you don’t smear your design when you apply your top coat. Finish with a top coat and your done!

I love that Ikat nails don’t have to be perfect to look great. It’s a great style for beginners who want to try something a little more intricate.
