HOW TO LOOK STYLISH WHILE RIDING A BIKE

If you, like me, are new to loving bicycles, it can be a relief to realise that you don’t have to dress like you’re in the Tour de France! I will never – and you probably will never have to, either – pour myself into a pair of lycra bike-shorts, or wear a pair of those very ferocious-looking reflective sunglasses! It’s true that you can look just as cute on a bike as you do on two feet, but I understand if you have some trepidation around the subject. I’m here to ease your fears! Here are a few tried and true tips and 15 fool-proof outfit ideas for a day out on your bicycle, no matter what your plans are!

Avoid Flashing!

If you want to wear a short or tight skirt or dress, wear a pair of short shorts underneath because they can be easily taken off when you get to your destination.

Long Skirts & Dresses.

Tie the extra material in a knot at the side of your thigh so it doesn’t get caught in your bike wheels or chain.

Biking in Heels.

Place toe section of your shoes on the pedals and start pedaling slowly. When you stop at lights, take your time repositioning your shoe before you start pedaling. Wedges are the easiest heel to bike in because of the flat center section.

Wear sunglasses.

If you’re like me and your eyes tear easily in the wind, a pair of chic sunglasses will do the trick and keep you from riding blind.

Handbags & Baskets.

The type of bag you carry on a bicycle will really be determined by whether your bike has a basket on it or not. With a pretty little wire or wicker basket, you can deposit all your junk and ride unencumbered. If you’re basketless, your best option is a satchel or anything with a long strap. You can hang it diagonally across your body, & it will essentially be out of your way while you’re pedalling. Also, another good choice is a backpack.

Bike fashion is always cool, especially when you pay utmost attention not only to your outfits, but also to the shade of your “ride” and some small details, such as flowers, that can add so much charm to your overall appearance. That’s yet another opportunity for you to show off your unique personality and great sense of style!
