I’ve been thrilled to see women rock tons of fun hair color trends (grey hair, rainbow hair, denim hair) in the past few years. And now there’s a new one to add to your Instagram-worthy list: geode hair.
If this looks familiar to you, it’s probably because the geode thing has also taken off as a nail and lip art trend.
And who do we have to thank for this absolutely mesmerising hair color trend? The owner of the Ramirez Tran salon in Los Angeles and a top hair colorist, Cherin Choi.
In order to replicate the interior of a crystal geode, Cherin starts by simply lightening the hair. When the hair is completely dried, she applies the amethyst purple on the mid sections, then the moonstone blue onto the very tips. She uses a brush and also emulsifies the colors with her hands to blend them and to keep the hues from looking harsh. Cherin also replicates the iridescent effect of a geode by using dyes that add luster to the hair – for a seriously eye-catching effect.
What is the main difference between rainbow hair and geode hair? Rather than saturated multi-tonal shades throughout, geode hair stays primarily in the purples, blues and greens and has a more sombré effect.
If you aren’t into showing off your true colors at first sight, or you have a bummer of a job that doesn’t let you dye your hair cool colors, you can always choose to have a more understated look by dying the underpart of your hair.
I hope that the pictures above will get you inspired to pull off this hair color trend.
