But, this year, chunky cable knits aren’t just for sweaters and scarves – people are wearing them on their nails too. Cable knit nail art takes the patterns we love from out favorite winter weather fashion and translates it onto your nails.

There are many ways to create cable knit nails or so called sweater nails, but one of the coolest (and probably most difficult) ways is by using nothing but a dotting tool to delicately apply gel nail polish in a cable pattern on your nail. That’s pretty surprising, since we all know that another recent trend, shattered-glass nails, take a little bit more effort and little bit more nail skills. To really nail the effect, the professionals suggest using 3D gel, which is slightly thicker than the polish you’re used to. The look is perfect for the chilly weather, whether you choose to sweater-ize all of your nails, rock cable knit accents on a couple nails or match your manicure to your ugly Christmas sweater, there’s really no wrong way to get in on this awesome fall/winter look. If you’re feeling brave enough, you can definitely give this a try at home. But, for those of us prone to chipping and creasing, it might be best to leave it up to the professionals.
