There’s no question that the first dates are intimidating. There are probably a million doubts swirling in your mind. What do I talk about? What if things are awkward? What if we aren’t compatible? A lot of questions!
While it might be hard to defeat these worries, looking your best can help calm those nerves. It’s not just about making a good first impression. Looking and feeling great will help you feel more confident.
Here are the five best beauty tips for a first date.
1. Don’t Put Off Appointments
Before your date, you might want to get a manicure or see your hairstylist. Or, maybe you’re due for a waxing.
Keep in mind that these things might require appointments. Leave enough time to get them done so you’re not stressing before your date.
With manicures and waxing sessions out of the way, you have more time to focus on other tasks.
(Pro tip: Facials can cause breakouts. If you are getting a facial, book the session well in advance your date.)
2. Stick to a Good Moisturising Routine
Sticking to a good moisturiser routine will leave your skin looking young and smooth.
Of course, this tip works best when you implement it daily. If you’ve been neglecting it, it’s never too late to start. After your pre-date shower, be sure to lather up to combat any dryness.
Use a natural moisturiser that won’t irritate your skin. Apply it to areas like your face, décolletage, hands, feet, etc.
3. Do Your Normal Makeup
A first date isn’t the time to experiment with a new look. You’ll spend the whole time worrying about whether or not it looks good. Plus, you want to present yourself as you normally are.
It’s a good idea to stick to your everyday makeup routine so you can feel comfortable and worry-free. Here a just a few tips to keep you on the straight and narrow:
Lips
Start with a nice coat of lip balm. If you apply lipstick or lipgloss, do so carefully. Even if you don’t kiss on the first date, thick and gloopy lips can be a turn-off.
Eyes
Consider using eye drops to combat any redness or dryness.
As for eye makeup, start with a cream to stimulate circulation. Then, make your eyes pop by using a little concealer and highlighter. This is a beautiful, natural look that is bound to wow your date.
We recommend going easy on the eye shadow and mascara so that your eyes can shine naturally on their own.
Foundation
A subtle layer of foundation can go a long way. It will act as a base for the rest of your makeup and make you feel more confident in your skin.
If you are prone to shiny, oily skin, opt for an oil-free primer.
4. Deciding on a Hairstyle
Like with your makeup, you shouldn’t try out a brand new hairstyle for your first date. A completely different cut or colour might make you insecure about meeting someone new.
That being said, it’s fine to see a hairstylist before a first date. They can give you a much-needed trim and freshen up your locks. Make sure you go to someone you trust. Also, as we mentioned above, leave yourself plenty of time to go in for an appointment.
5. Don’t Stress
We’ll leave with one final tip, perhaps the most important one: don’t stress.
This is easier said than done. But prepping for a first date should be exciting.
Have fun with it! Getting friends to help out can calm your nerves. Even if your date doesn’t go as expected, at least you got to glam up with your girls.
