Let’s get started!
Divide
Having so much makeup can be overwhelming. It might take you so long to declutter, so it is better to go category by category. It all depends on your collection, but you can go with skincare, face, eyes, lips, and so on.
Check expiry date
Makeup does have an expiry date. You need to check your collection thoroughly to see if any of them are already expired. Here are some things that you should consider:
- Check the package to see the sign. It looks like a small round container with a number in it. It is usually 6, 8, 12, or 18. This tells you how much time after opening your product will last. Liquid products usually last for 6 months, such as mascara. Others can go well for 12 to 18 months. Toss the old ones immediately.
- Sometimes, the products can go bad even before their expiry date. Make sure that you check the state of each one. See if they have changed the smell, color, and consistency. If you see that the product has the liquid separated, it means that you should throw it. The products will go bad if you don’t store them properly.
Decide about what you want to keep
Get rid of any things that you don’t use or love. If you have a new bomb highlighter and the old one sits there unused, you don’t need it. Also, get rid of foundations that don’t match your skin tone.
Do you have products that you don’t use, but are brand new? You can gift them to friends. You shouldn’t throw products that are in a good condition.
However, don’t get rid of all the products that you don’t use currently. Like for example, that darker shade of foundation. You can keep it for the summer, for when your skin will be slightly darker and your winter shade won’t suit you well.
Store them
Once your makeup is decluttered, it is time for storing. Organize them neatly, so that you can reach for the product that you need easily. Avoid storing them in the bathroom. The humidity can make the products go bad quicker than their expiry date. Also, don’t place them in direct sunlight. A Dark and cool place without high levels of humidity would be perfect.
