Pantone’s Color of the Year 2016: Rose Quartz and Serenity

At the beginning of December every year Pantone, the world’s authority on color, announces the “Color of the Year.” The brownish-red Marsala was color of the year for 2015 and the purply pink Radiant Orchid announced for 2014. Emerald was 2013’s color, and for 2012 Pantone chose the bright orange Tangerine Tango.

Last week Pantone announced that for the first time ever, they have chosen not one but two shades to represent 2016. The two colors — Rose Quartz (pretty pale pink) and Serenity (baby blue) — are gentle and calming, heralding a softer take for the year ahead, according to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director at Pantone Color Institute.
Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.

Serenity and Rose Quartz will no doubt be spotted everywhere next year, especially in the beauty and fashion industries. We can also expect to see the color combination used for home furnishings, electronic products, art, jewelery and accessories such as handbags, hats and footwear.
