Choose One that Meets Your Needs and Exceeds Your Expectations
Day spas are the perfect places to get refreshed and feel like the best version of yourself. But not all day spas are created equally.
Before you make appointments for multiple services, you must do your due diligence to determine whether a specific day spa is right for you.
There are a number of things you should look for in a day spa. Here are our six favorites we consider before booking services.
First and foremost, a day spa should be clean and follow all relevant health and safety codes. Due to the “in-your-face” nature of many day spa services and reusable tools, towels, and spa beds, it’s important that the spa be sanitary, and that all equipment is taken care of properly.
This includes never reusing unsanitized facial tools on multiple clients, thorough washing and drying of all spa towels, disinfecting of spa beds, and keeping work areas tidy and clear of debris.
If, when you enter a day spa for the first time, you notice that these things aren’t as they should be, it is well within your rights to leave and go elsewhere.
Not everyone is looking for same-day spa services. But the day spa you select should offer the services that you want.
The list of possible services at your local day spa can be quite long, but if it’s lacking something you’re looking for – dermaplaning, body waxing, or manicures, for example – then it simply isn’t for you, even if it’s beautiful and clean otherwise.
Find out what services your local day spa offers by checking their services menu on their website or looking through their social media pages.
Day spas are meant to help you look and feel your best. They also tend to help you destress. But if you have to drive a long distance, find street parking, or navigate narrow back roads to get there, you might not want to visit it.
When choosing a day spa, take a look at its location on a map. You can even use Google Street View to get an idea of what’s around it, what the neighborhood looks like, and where parking might be available if it isn’t indicated on their website or on social media.
The one thing a salon cannot change easily is its location, so it’s very important that where it works well for you.
Don’t expect a reputable day spa to be cheap. It is safe to equate cheap with undesirable in this case!
On the same vein, their pricing should not be outrageous, either, unless they’re offering premium services to every spa guest, or they’re using highly specialized serums and products in their services.
If prices aren’t what you’d expect to pay elsewhere, it may be a red flag.
Skill and Expertise
You don’t want just anyone performing facial extractions, waxing your eyebrows, or providing a body treatment. You want the best possible esthetician working with you so that you leave with the results you’re expecting.
Your day spa’s estheticians should be licensed with your state, which requires they to complete a certain type of training program to be eligible. But undergoing training doesn’t guarantee skill!
Find out if the day spa’s estheticians are highly skilled by reading reviews online from other guests. Lots of positive reviews mean the estheticians know what they’re doing and get good, consistent results.
Finally, when looking for a day spa, find one that is a true one-stop shop for all your beauty needs. Day spas that offer salon services, like hair coloring, hair styling, and more mean you don’t have to drive to multiple places to take care of yourself.
This is a convenience that many people are unwilling to compromise on. If it’s important to you, find out if the day spa near you offers additional services beyond the basic day spa menu.
It’s Your Decision
Ultimately, it is solely your decision when determining whether a day spa is right for you. To manage your expectations – and make sure your spa of choice meets them – you’ll want to research options thoroughly before making any appointments.
Then, when you go in for a special treatment, you’ll enjoy it with a smile on your face the whole time.
